What is Open Source?

JavaScore will be released using the "Open Source" licensing scheme.  Which means that there will be no charge to use the program, and I'll post source code so that others can contribute enhancements.  Know anyone that wants to help? Have them send me an email (sandy@gromurph.org)

If you are not familiar with Open Source licensing, its what the Linux operating system was developed under.  More information can be found at: http://www.opensource.org.  There's also an outstanding article explaining the practical workings and oral traditions of Open Source called "The Cathedral and the Bazaar"

In particular, while I'm focusing on the "middle" part of a full blown program.    The first part being a master file and registration scheme, the final part being a good internet interface for distributing results. Will be left for later.  I've talked to some folks about working with me on these parts (Reggie and Jeff, are you reading this?).

I'm also limiting early stuff to one-design and low-point.  Hypothetically, I designed all this to make it easy to "plug-in" new scoring systems and handicapping systems.  Contributions of both are welcome.
