EYC - the adventure begins |
| First, from this morning, we remember that walking down the dock to
Road Trip is not an option |
| But a kayak and a paddle later, Sandy (no not Mark, but the idea is fun to ponder) paddled out to Road Trip
Safe and dry aboard Road Trip (wonder of wonders) Sandy looks back at the club, with several ducks enjoying the parts of EYC's
docks that tore away. |
And now looking over to SSA...Water has started to recede, these pictures are
all about 1 to 1 and 1/2 feet below high water. |
| After several precarious trips in and out of the kayak, Road Trip
is freed, and Mark picked up from the shore, and we put EYC behind us. |
Chesapeake Harbor took a lot of the brunt of the waves for SSA and EYC.
Here she is still pretty flooded, damage to her bulkheads is not very
apparent. |
Time to go sightseeing...this is looking back at SSA from roughly the
mouth of Spa Creek. |
Off the US Naval Academy |
| Over on the sea wall, looks like an illegally parked boat on "firstie
row" (where midshipmen usually park there cars) |
Around the corner looking up at USNA's Robert Crown Sailing Center
(currently undergoing a real renovation), but her main bulkhead is
completely under water. |
A couple of casualties frame the USNA Field House (that is supposed to
be a road leading to the Field House |
| The view up towards the main entrance of the Academy, I wonder if you
need a permit to bring your rowboat on base. |
Fellow sightseers, we were not the only ones to take advantage of the
surprisely quick departure of Isabel and the calm weather on her
backside... |
Ego alley looks like a fantasy land.. |
Ego Alley and City Dock |
| As we turn the corner to look up Ego Alley into the main City Dock area,
its quite a site. |
The sign on the right bore yesterday's non-Kansanian Flamingo |
In just a week and a half, the Rolex IWKC will have there opening
ceremonies here. Hope everyone brings boots! |
| Go up Ego Alley on the left, the Marriot. Apparently, they had to
bring their guests breakfast by row boat! |
Closer up at the Marriott and its fairly famous Pusser's Waterfront
Bar... |
Pusser's boarded up, most of the dock side bar has floated away |
| A car in the Fleet Reserve "parking lot" |
On the right side, row-up service at the Harbormaster's office |
The shops on the right side of Ego Alley, all quite wet |
| Then we round the corner as see what all of Annapolis is doing for sport
today... playing in Annapolis' new beach |
Alex Haley is still visible, but his audience has changed
quite a bit |
Did I mention the kids swimming yet? |
| Perhaps getting brunch at Middletons today is not a
promising idea. |
Heading back out...lots of water at the Yacht Basin too |
Yep, I bet we can't fill up there today |
| If you want brunch at Chart House... |
... arrive by boat (I hear the tables were floating as well) |
Fifth street is underwater past Severn Avenue |
Annapolis YC |
| Sort of looks normal... |
oops, yep, the docks are well under |
but if you look careful, the Skipjack is back above water
(this is 2' below the high water mark) |
| Guess the dinghy docks is drowning as well... |
Looking over at the sailing center... water everywhere |
OK, the top of the scaffolding around the hoists is
showing... |
| But don't try to call the Spa Creek Bridge draw tender... |
Taking the AYC underpass requires stout knees and lots of
ducking |
Prepare for wet pants if you want to chat with Chip Thayer
on Quick Step at the end of the first AYC Annex pier |
