Updates for May 3(Friday, racing day)

Updates:

We finished our racing today.  Sailed 5 flights, were 3-2 on the day and 4-3 for the whole consolation round.  While I wasn't sure what other teams had done, I figured we probably 2nd to 4th in consolation round.

After we finished, we stayed out to watch the semi-finals which included Liz Baylis (USA), Cordelia Eglin (GBR), Marie Bjorling (SWE) and Anne Le Helley (FRA) .  But the wind was petering out and getting extremely flaky... so after looking at the postponement flag for a while we headed for the beer.

Much to our utter astonishment, the Spanish team was offering us congratulations when we finally got to the dock. Apparently no one was better than 4-3 and we had won a 4-way tiebreaker to win the consolation round.

This all brings us a final position of 9th.  I'd hoped and believed that we were good enough to be in the top half, but a final of 9th is far far far better than our slow start, so we're strutting tonight, Team S&M T-shirts are coming back out, and we don't have to worry about eating or drinking tonight with racing tomorrow in mind.

PS the question has been asked: is the picture on the website of a boat broaching badly us?  the answer is NO (we did have one good round up on the first day but no planted mastheads and no broken spin poles).
