Updates for May 1 (Wednesday, racing day)
| Updates:
We finished the main initial round robin today. Of the American teams, Dawn/Nancy/Elizabeth/Meg had the best day and are currently (I think) in 2nd overall. Liz/Corina/Stacy/Aimee were 2-2 on the day, but the 2 losses dropped them all the way from the lead down to 6th. We were also 2-2 on the day, and pull ourselves out of the total cellar. Marie Bjorling won the main RR by 1 point. Was blowing pretty good. We were not scheduled to sail the first 6 flights of the day and spent the time on the "mothership". It has wind instruments that said true wind started the day out of the southwest at about 17 and was up to 19 when we left the mothership to start sailing. Seas were building all day and we has some fun surfing conditions. We continue to be slow upwind but we were lightning fast downwind and are now thinking that our lightweight crew (50 pounds under the max) is hurting us more than we had thought. The combination of that and winning a couple matches has us beating ourselves up much less. The organizers are hoping to put us all into another round robin: the top 8 teams are going to sail each other, and us in the bottom 8 will sail each other. We start that RR with a clean slate, so could still finish up as high as 9th overall. Hopefully we'll improve from our dismal start. We'll start that RR today and probably finish tomorrow (Friday) which will be the end of sailing for us. Looking out the window (am writing this about 9am thursday local time), we have a slight high overcast and the winds are pretty light out in the bay. Haven't check the forecast yet.
