Updates for April 30 (Tuesday, racing day)
| Updates:
We continue to have some significant problems getting everything to go correctly in a single race. It's been a tough couple of days. Tuesday's racing was in about 4-8 knots of air. Sunny and gorgeous. We had talked over a bunch of things regarding sail trim to try out today and our boat speed was better but was only truly good in one race: ironically, the opposing boat was same boat that we were sailing in all day Monday. I'm not one to blame things on boats (except when necessary to protect team psyche)... better to focus on what we have control over ourselves but it was ironic. We did manage to end to "O-for" streak, and had a couple of close matches with some challenging umpire calls. With a 1-11 start (yuk) we are almost certainly mathematically eliminated from making the quarters and are now just trying to make sure we're not last in the whole regatta. I feel a bit like we've let a bunch of supporters down back home with this poor start. And the bummer is that we're not getting outclassed by the competition, we just can't seem to get a successful rhythm going. I guess we've been successful enough on home waters with boat speed that we're just out of practice solving them. For Wednesday's racing, we have the first 6 flights off (there are 16 total teams and 8 boats, so only half the competitors are racing at any one time), and then finish the round robin with 4 matches in a row. Probably will sail our first match around 3pm here in Central Europe Daylight time (about 9am on the US east coast). I hear rumors that the organizers are updating the cncalpe.com web page with results during the day. Maybe we'll get our act together today and start adding up some points.
